Northern Terminus

	NC 184 north leaving NC 194 in Banner Elk. NCDOT wants you to know the route ends 4 miles away. This sign has since been removed.   Photo by Mark Clifton.
	Here is the END STATE MAINTENANCE" sign, and this endpoint is defined by NCDOT as 1.00 miles into Watauga County, where it has ended since 1981. This is actually 4.8 miles north of the 4-miles sign above.   Photo by Morgan Younce, taken November 24, 2016.
