N.C. 186  16 miles
The Road: Begins at NC 48 near Brewers Crossroads and ends at The Virginia State Line near Margarettesville, all within Northampton County
The route continues several miles as VA 186 to end at VA 35 Boykins, VA.
Towns and Attractions: Northampton Co: Garysburg, Seaboard

History: NC 186 appeared about 1975 as a renumbering of NC 195. This was done because Virginia renumbered their side in Aug 1973 when I-195 in Richmond came around.
In May 2013 (NCDOT), NC 186 west was extended south along US 301, then west with NC 46 across I-95, then north replacing SR 1200 to NC 48. This extension was to put an industrial park directly on the primary system. As of late summer 2013 this extension had not been signed and in fact SR 1200 was closed due to a rehab project.

Comment: NC 186 can be part of an effective short-cut between I-95 and US 58 at Franklin VA using VA 35 and SR 671.
