NC 243: Appeared in 1931 as a renumbering of part of NC 24, running from NC 24 (now SR 1832 Parkerstown Rd) Hubert east to Swansboro. NC 243 ended essentially where Main St meets the White River.
In 1934, NC 243 was replaced anew by NC 24 when the first White River bridge was built. It is still NC 24 today except NC 243 used SR 1447 Main St that loops over NC 24.
