The Road: Begins at US 258/NC 561 below Rich Square (Northampton County) and ends at NC 32 Pleasant Grove (Washington County).

History: NC 308 was born in 1933 as new primary routing, running from US 258/NC 12 to NC 30 (current US 13 Business (Granville St) Windsor.
In 1975, NC 308 was extended through Windsor, then replaced secondary routing southeast to end at NC 45 north of the Roanoke River.
Between 1980-82, NC 308 was extended again to its current east ending at Pleasant Grove.

Comment:
There is a posted NC 308 TRUCK in Windsor, which follows the US 13 Bypass around the south of town, then uses the original US 17 Bypass around the east to connect back up with NC 308.
East of Windsor, NC 308 passes very near one of the lesser-known ferries in NC, over the Cashie River at Sans Souci. This free ferry connects pieces of SR 1500 two (at least in the late 80's) dirt roads.
