NC 690 was created in 1999 as new primary routing, running as it does today.

The selection of 690 for this new state highway is baffling, when in recent times new routes were using the 130-140's. Lou Corsaro suggests: Extend NC 690 west of US 1 along Union Ch road towards US 15/501 & NC 24/27 in Carthage. Union Ch Road passes through Union Pines H.S, New Century Middle and the back side of the Moore County Fairgrounds (front entrance is on US 15/501 & NC 24/27). |
