N.C. 741  doubly dead
Formerly: NC 741 The first NC 741 appeared in 1929 or 1930 as new primary routing. It began at NC 151 (current US 601) just north of the NC 27 jct. It ran north through Mount Pleasant, where it crossed its parent NC 74 (now NC 73) and continued north to end at US 601/NC 80 (today's US 52) in Gold Hill. In 1933, NC 741 was downgraded to SR's 2352 and 2444 St. Stephens Church Rd below Gold Hill, as well as a few miles of newly christened NC 62 (now NC 49) to Mount Pleasant. Below Mount Pleasant NC 741 became SR 1006 Mt Pleasant Rd South.

The second NC 741 showed up in 1935, running from US 74 (nice to see the state use its just-ditched system!) Spindale (now US 74 Bus-US 221A) south to the South Carolina Line below Harris, where the road continued as then-SC 110 (now S-42-99) to Chesnee. In 1941, NC 741 was overrun by the new and improved US 221 down to around Harris. The 1941 Esso Map shows NC 741 still running from Harris to SC. The 1941-42 Official State Map shows no NC 741 at all. Today below Harris NC 741 is now SR's 1111 and 1116.
