The current US 601 Business is the 2nd one created, in Sept 1970 (NCDOT) replacing mainline US 601 through Dobson.
US 601 Business has been shown but never labeled on NC State Officials.

The 1st US 601 Business was created Oct 1965 (NCDOT) as a renumbering of US 601 through Concord.
In July 1997 (NCDOT), US 601 Business was decommissioned. This left behind a bit of NC 136 (now NC 3); Union St; a little Corban Ave; NC 73; a bit of Church St
US 601 Business was shown on Officials through the 1999 issue.
