Creation: I-520 first appeared on the 2003 official map as under construction. It opened in South Carolina 6/22/04 (SCDOT press release) running just from US 1-78-278 to Georgia.
Adjustments: In Dec 2009 (interstate-guide.com), I-520 was extended to I-20 near its interchange with US 25/SC 121.
Improvements: 4 lane freeway at inception.
Comment: I-520 is an extension of the much older Georgia I-520.
I had wondered if 520 will be renumbered once it made a complete loop with I-20, but there is no indocation this will be occurring.
Official maps showed the first open section as SC 520 for a couple editions, but it has always been posted as I-520. AASHTO approval of I-520 in South Carolina did not technically occur until 2011, so perhaps on paper it really was SC 520...?
US 78 and US 278 are not identified from I-520 for some reason.
I-520 blows off SC 125.
