SC 278: Appeared in 1942 as new primary routing, running from SC 19 (now SC 121) west 3.5 miles towards SC 39 in northern Saluda County.
In 1947, SC 278 was downgraded to S-41-44. The western half is still unpaved and the road onward to SC 39 is still not even in the secondary system.
