Creation: SC 441 appeared in 1940 as new primary routing, running from SC 44 (now S-31-7) below Manville southwest to the Sumter County Line.
Adjustments: In 1942, SC 441 was extended southwest as new primary routing to end at SC 261 above Stateburg.

In 1945, SC 441 was extended south with SC 261 to Stateburg, then west as new primary routing that had once been US 76 to end at the railroad.
In 1947, SC 441 was extended east replacing SC 44 to end at US 15. SC 441 was also rerouted at Stateburg to head due south replacing SC 261 to US 76. The old route west to US 76 became S-43-39.
In 1950, SC 441 west was truncated back to its 1942 ending, replaced by a reinvigorated SC 261.

In late 1951, SC 441 was rerouted at Pinckney Crossroads to instead head due south over S-42-38 to US 76-378 along the west side of Shaw AFB. The old routing to SC 261 became S-43-28.
In 2001, SC 441 south was extended back around to SC 763 Sumter. This was a mix of new construction as well as replacing S-42-944 and S-42-204.
