Creation: SC 555 appeared in 1942 as new primary routing, running as it does now, although the Harden St portion in Columbia was shown as proposed. This is the only SC 555.
Adjustments: In 1947, SC 555 was downgraded to S-40-36.
In 1951, SC 555 was returned to service.

In 1958, SC 555 was actually run down Harden St to SC 12.

Improvements: Southern half was paved upon creation;
SC 555 was multilaned on its 1958 extension along Harden St.
By 1963, SC 555 was multilaned to SC 16.
In 1970, SC 555 was multilaned to I-20.
In 1982, SC 555 was multilaned from I-77 to Hard Scrabble Rd.
Comment: SC 555 is not as useful as it once was, with I-77 running so close to it.
