Creation: SC 602 appeared in 1940 as new primary routing, running from SC 6 near Red Bank to US 21/SC 5-215 (now US 1-21 CONN) West Columbia. This is the only SC 602.
Adjustments: In 1940, SC 642 was extended northeast to SC 6 (now S-8-5) Pinopolis.
In 1947, SC 602 was downgraded to S-32-35.
In 1949, SC 602 was restored to its original routing.
By 1953, SC 602 was placed on new routing leaving behind parts of Laurel Hill Dr and Ramblin Rd.

Improvements: Fully paved upon resurrection in 1949.
In 2005, SC 602 was multilaned from US 1-21 CONN to Emmanuel Church Rd.
In 2014, SC 602 was multilaned the rest of the way to SC 6.
Comment: SC 602 is blown off by I-26. It is odd that SC 602 was not extended northeast to US 1 once US 21 was removed from Old Charleston Hwy.
