Total Length: 3.6 miles
ROUTE LOG
US 278: 0 - 0
US 78: 3.6 - 3.6
Creation: SC 781 appeared in 1940 running from SC 28 (now S-2-5) Beech Island to US 78 near White Pond. This is the only SC 781.
Adjustments: Between 1943-1947, SC 781 was rebuilt from roughly Holley Creek west of today's SC 19 to US 78. The eastern end of SC 781 was moved south nearly a mile to US 78 right at the Aiken-Barnwell line. The old SC 781 eastern end became S-2-55. In the Three Runs Creek area, the old routing is now within the Savannah River Site in various states of existence. In the Holley Creek area, the old route eventually became S-2-1882 Independent Blvd.

Improvements: Paved by 1947; no multilane segments.
Comment: SC 781 is a connector that allows US 78 traffic towards Augusta to avoid Aiken altogether.
