Creation: Appeared in 1933 or 1934 running from TN 72 Williams Springs to TN 33 near Clover Hill. This is a renumbering of part of TN 72.
| Adjustments: In 1939 or 1940, US 129 was added to the full length of TN 115. In 1959, TN 115 was extended north with US 129-411, then with the new US 129 bypass around Maryville to end at US 129 Bus (now TN 35).
About 1982, TN 115 was extended north with US 129 to its endpoint with I-40, replacing TN 73. TN 115 was also extended south replacing TN 72 to the Nourth Carolina line.
Posting: No standalone shields, but there ARE milemarkers on the northernmost 2+ miles of the US 129 freeway approaching I-40 that have TN 115 shields on them! Secret US Route Overlay: US 129 (entire route) Comment: The current state route designation for the "Tail of the Dragon" highway that runs from the NC Line to the Tabcat Creek Bridge...famous for its multitude of mountainous curves and is popular with motorcyclists. Mapmikey drove this one time in 1987...at night and in a 1984 Chevette. Guessing it isn't the same sort of experience. |
