Creation: Appeared by 1981 running from TN 11 near Pulaski south to the Alabama line.
Adjustments: In 1983, TN 166 was extended with TN 11 into Pulaski, then west with US 64 then north through Mt Plesant to US 412 Hampshire.
In 1995 or 1996, TN 166 was rerouted to follow TN 11 south to the new US 64 bypass of Pulaski, then joined US 64 west around town.
