The Road: Begins at I-285, I-85 Bus, US 29-52-70 Linwood (Davidson County) and ends at NC 49 near Martha (Randolph County)

History: NC 47 was born April 1972 (NCDOT), running only from NC 8 near the JOAUM Home east to NC 109 Denton. This was an upgrade to SRs 2380, 2357, 2346, 2337, 2344 and 2351.
In 1974, NC 47 was extended east to NC 49 over Davidson SR 2511 and Randolph SR 1300.
In Feb 1981 (NCDOT), NC 47 west was extended south over NC 8 a short bit (this arrangement has since been modified to a simple crossroad), then west replacing SRs 1130 Jr. Order Home Rd, 1131 Leggett and Plant Rd, 1104 Old Linwood Rd, and 1133 Belmont Rd to end at today's EXIT 86 of I-85/US 29-52-70.
In Dec 1993 (NCDOT), NC 47 west was rerouted in the Linwood area to end at I-85 EXIT 88 replacing more SR 1130 Jr. Order Home Rd, more SR 1396/1104 Old Linwood Rd, and SR 1224 Hargrave Rd. The old route became SR 3159 Belmont Rd and SR 3160 Leggett and Plant Rd.
In Aug 2013 (NCDOT), NC 47 west was extended to I-285/I-85 Bus/US 29-52-70, replacing another 1/2 mile of SR 1224 Hargrave Rd.
In Dec 2018 (NCDOT), NC 47 west was altered to follow Hargrave Rd west to I-285's SB exit there. The road to I-285 NB exit is now considered part of a ramp.

The first NC 47 was born in late 1934 as a renumbering of NC 40-A. It ran from US 158 (now just Weldon Rd) Roanoke Rapids to US 301 Pleasant Hill.
In 1952, NC 47 was renumbered as part of NC 48.

Comments:
NC 47 doesn't seem to serve a particular travel corridor and has several turns in Denton.
For years NC 47 couldn't get onto the BGS at the Linwood exit from I-85.
