The Road: Begins at NC 62 in eastern Guilford County and ends at NC 150 Osceola, still within Guilford County.
Towns and Attractions: Guilford Co.: Gibsonville
History: NC 61 was born as new primary routing in 1930, running from NC 109 Thomasville east through Archdale and ending at NC 60 (today this is "Old US 421") Julian.
In 1936, NC 61 was extended east from Julian as new routing 9 miles, then north as new routing to end at US 70 near Gibsonville.
In 1940, NC 61 was truncated to run only 7 miles from US 70 south to its current end at NC 62. The segment of NC 61 that continued to Archdale and Thomasville became part of NC 62 which it remains today.
About 1961, NC 61 was extended north as new primary routing (included a NC 100 duplex) through Gibsonville and up to NC 150 Osceola.
