History: NC 92 was born 1926 as new routing, running from NC 91 (now US 264) Midway to Bath.
In 1933, NC 92 was extended east as new routing to end at today's SR 1748 Tuscarora Dr in Bayview.
In 1964, NC 92 was removed from SR 1746 Bayview Rd and instead extended east over SR 1713 to end at US 264 Belhaven.
Between 1985-87, NC 92 east was truncated to NC 306 Gaylord, replaced by an extended NC 99.
Also between 1985-87, NC 92 was extended west with US 264 to end at US 17.

Comment:
I'm surprised NC 92 wasn't christened in 1921, as Bath is one of North Carolina's oldest towns. I'm also curious why it wasn't NC 91x.
The extension west to Washington doesn't make much sense to me.
