History: |
NC 93 was born in late 1940 as a renumbering of NC 260 to match the older VA 93. It ran generally as it does now.
In 1977, NC 93 was rerouted at Piney Creek to its current routing, replacing SR 1350. The old path became SR 1316 and more NC 113.
The second NC 93 appeared very briefly during 1940. It replaced a bit of NC 24 running from US 1-15-501 Tramway east to US 421/NC 87 (now just Lee Ave) Jonesboro. In late 1940 NC 93 was needed at the Virginia line so NC 93 was renumbered as NC 78.

Comment: |
NC 93 has plenty of twists and turns, but does not have much elevation change.
If it were a bit better aligned, it would make a great alternative to US 21 to reach I-81 via US 58 and VA 16. |
