N.C. 112  4 miles
The Road: Begins at US 19-23 Enka and ends at NC 191, all within Buncombe County.
Towns and Attractions: Buncombe Co: Enka
History: NC 112 appeared in 1940 as new primary routing, running from US 19-23 Candler southwest to the Buncombe-Henderson Line at Mt. Pisgah.
In 1951 or 1952, NC 112 was extended east along US 19-23, then branched off to go to NC 191 like it does now.
About 1963, the original segment of NC 112 was renumbered as NC 151.

The 1st NC 112 appeared in 1930 as new primary routing, running from US 19/NC 10 (now US 74-441) near Wilmont north to NC 107 (now US 19) Cherokee.
About 1938, NC 112 became NC 107-E. Today it is US 441 and US 441 Business.

Comment: A number of maps imply NC 112 went all the way to US 276, but the county maps all show the road in Henderson/Transylvania/Haywood Counties as Nat'l Forest Road. The 1962 Henderson County map shows it as SR 1427.
My theory about why the western piece of 112 was renumbered to 151 is that giving directions to the Blue Ridge Pkwy would've been confusing: Take US 19-23 to NC 112 and follow it to the Parkway. With the way 112 ran, this would be ambiguous as to which 112 turnoff to use.
