The Road:		Begins at NC 124 Macclesfield (Edgecombe County) and ends at NC 125 Hobgood (Halifax County)

History:		NC 122 appeared in mid-1931 as new routing. It ran from NC 12 (now US 258) northeast to NC 125 Hobgood. This had briefly been part of NC 12 in the early 20s. In 1994, NC 122 was sent south with US 258 to Princeville, then with US 64 across the Tar River, then with US 64 ALT in Tarboro. NC 122 then was sent to Pinetops as an upgrade to SRs 1006, 1202 and 1301. NC 122 continued over SRs 1120 and 1119 to Macclesfield, then with NC 124 east to end at US 258 Crisp. I cannot locate a map that shows the NC 124 duplex but I saw it in person. Sometime after 1994, NC 122 was truncated back to end at Macclesfield, leaving behind NC 124. NC 122 appears in 1931 NC 122 extended south
Comment:		NC 122's routing through Speed to Hobgood was part of a court controversy in the 1920s when the state wanted to route NC 12 along today's US 258. See the NC 12 page for details.
