Begins at US 70 Nebo (McDowell County) and ends at NC 181 Morganton (Burke County)

History:

NC 126 appeared in 1940 as a renumbering of NC 105. It ran from NC 105 (now SR 1238) Longtown east to NC 181 Morganton.
In 1954, NC 126 was extended west to US 70 Nebo, replacing more NC 105.

NC 126 finishes the job

The first NC 126 was extremely short-lived. It appeared as a new route in 1933 running from US 258/NC 12 near Snow Hill east through Maury and Ayden before ending at US 17/NC 30 Wilmar. This only appears on the 1933 Gen Draft map. The 1933 Official shows no road at all.
In 1934, NC 126 was renumbered as an extended NC 102.

NC 126 is a throw-back road...lots of curves, even though the elevation doesn't change much...
