History:

NC 127 appeared in 1940 as a renumbering of NC 96, running essentially the way it does now.

Between 1963-68, NC 127 was removed from Center St and 5th Ave in central Hickory and instead put onto 2nd St Drive NE.
In 2001 or 2002, NC 127 was removed from Center St in the Brookford area and instead put on Brookford Blvd.
In 2005, NC 127 was removed from S. Center St in the Brookford area and put onto 2nd St.

Comment:

NC 127 is blown off by I-40, although before US 321 was put on its current freeway, Exit 123 was signed as only TO NC 127.
