NC 138 was born in 1973 as an upgrade to SRs 1972, 1953 and 1901 running the way it does now.
In Oct 2010 (NCDOT), NC 138 was truncated to its current endpoint, replaced by a rerouted US 52. |

It looks to me the only reason this exists is to have Aquadale on the state highway system as Oakboro can be reached faster using NC 24-27 and NC 205.
Why wasn't this numbered as an extended 205 or 742? |
