The Road: Begins at US 220 Bus near Ulah and ends at US 64 Asheboro, all within Randolph County.
Towns and Attractions: Randolph Co: NC Zoological Park

History: Appeared in 1975 as an upgrade to SR 2803, running from US 64/NC 49 Asheboro to the new NC Zoological Park and Gardens.
In 1977, NC 159 was rerouted to loop back south to US 220. The stub into the Zoo became NC 159 SPUR.

In 2019, NC 159 was moved onto the newly constructed Zoo Connector from NC 159 Spur northwest to a new connection back to Zoo Parkway. The previous route (now SR 3019) due north from NC 159 is no longer reachable from this direction.
In May 2024 (NCDOT), NC 159 was rerouted to follow Zoo Connector to the new bypass freeway for US 64. The routing to US 64 Bus/NC 49 became SR 3018.
