NC 180 appeared about 1952 as mostly new primary routing (NC 26 already used some of this), running as it does today

The first NC 180 appeared in 1934 as new primary routing, running from NC 190 (now NC 226) Polkville to NC 18 Fallston.
In 1952, NC 180 was renumbered as part of NC 182.

Comment: NC 180 serves as a de facto bypass of Shelby for NC 18 through traffic. In fact I wonder why NC 180 was moved and NC 182 was christened when this could've just been part of NC 18.
