NC 206 #1: An original state route that ran from NC 20 (now US 74 Bus) Shelby northeast through Cherryville to end at NC 16 (now just Aspen St (Lincolnton).
About 1928, NC 206 east may have been truncated to west of Lincolnton as NC 27 was routed through using some of NC 206.
In 1931, NC 206 was renumbered as part of NC 150.
In Lincoln County NC 206 used Old NC 150/Crouse School Rd and SR 1407 from Roseland to NC 27.

NC 206 #2: was born in 1931 as a new primary route running from US 74/NC 20 Hamlet south to NC 203 (current NC 79) Gibson.
In late 1934, NC 206 was renumbered as NC 78. Today it is NC 381 except right in Hamlet NC 206 used Grace Chapel Rd.
