N.C. 220  dead

NC 220 #1: Appeared about 1928 as new primary routing, running from NC 102 (now SR 1703 N. Church St) north to US 217/NC 22 (now US 301) near Smithfield.
In 1929, NC 220 was extended along US 217 to Selma, then north as new routing to end at NC 91 (now US 264-A) near Zebulon.
In 1930, NC 220 was renumbered as NC 23. Today it is US 701, US 301 and NC 39.

The second NC 220 was born in 1931 as a new primary route running from US 217/NC 22 (now US 301) Saint Paul to NC 24 (now US 401 Business) Raeford.
In 1932, NC 220 was extended east as new routing to end at NC 21 (now NC 87) near Duart.
In late 1934, NC 220 was renumbered as NC 20. It is still NC 20 except it used Rex Rd through Rex and SR 1308 Old NC 20 east of Tobermory.
