Formerly:

NC 293: Appeared in 1931 as mostly upgraded routing, from NC 284 (now US 276 at Mountain View Rd) Dellwood west to Soco Gap at the Jackson County Line. The last mile or so of this was shown on the 1930 Haywood County map as no road at all.
In 1941, NC 293 was extended west over secondary routing to end at NC 107 (current SR 1391, old US 441) Cherokee. The 1938 amd 1939 Officials actually imply the Blue Ridge Pkwy was to follow this route to Cherokee from Soco Gap.
Between 1937-44, NC 293 was removed from Mountain View Rd in Dellwood; Moody Farm Rd; Frank Mehaffey Rd west of Maggie Valley and put on the newly constructed route which US 19 uses today.
In 1947, NC 293 was renumbered as US 19-A. Today it is US 19.

VA 293 #2: The discovery that NC 296 was assigned to I-26's corridor in the 1940s made the odd finding shown on the 1959 Virginia Official map evidence that NC 293 was assigned to at least some parts of I-85 in the 1940s.
