NC 402: was born 1933, running from its parent US 17-1/NC 40 (current US 117 Bus) Goldsboro west on Ash St to the Cherry State Hospital located nearby. NC 402 was renumbered as part of NC 111 in 1935. Today it is part of NC 581, as NC 111 was eventually rerouted to the northeast of Goldsboro.
