History:		NC 403 was born in 1932. It began at NC 40/US 117 Faison, and proceeded southwest to US 701/NC 23 Clinton Between 1956-58, NC 403 was extended east over unnumbered routing to its current end at NC 55. In 1967 or 1968, NC 403 west was truncated from downtown Clinton out to the current alignment of US 701 Business. Comment:		NC 403 is the only surviving daughter of the original NC 40, which is about all it has going for it.
