Creation: SC 37 was an original state route running from SC 1 (now SC 3) Barnwell to SC 27 (now US 78) Williston. This is the only SC 37.
| Adjustments: In 1923, SC 37 was rerouted to end at SC 27 (now US 78) Elko. The old route to Williston is today S-6-113. In 1940, SC 37 was extended north as new primary routing to end at SC 39 near Springfield. Also in 1940, SC 37 was extended through Barnwell on SC 3, then southwest as new primary routing to end at the Allendale County Line. In 1942, a very short discontinuous piece was created running from SC 28-631 (now SC 125) east of Martin north to Baldock. Between 1943-46, the gap in SC 37 was closed. Between 1941-47, SC 37 was removed from S-6-11 Main St in Barnwell and instead followed SC 64. In 1947, SC 37 was extended south replacing SC 631 to end at SC 70-631 (now S-3-47). Also, SC 37 north was truncated to US 78 Elko leaving behind S-6-19.
In 1949, SC 37 was re-extended north to SC 39. Much of this was new alignment and the jct with SC 39 was 0.3 miles southwest of the original.
Between 1948-52, SC 37 was placed on current US 278 bypassing the west of Barnwell, leaving behind SC 64.
Between 1948-50, SC 37 was extended south replacing more SC 631 to end at US 301. In 1963, SC 37 south was truncated to its current south end leaving behind SC 28 (now US 278) and SC 3.
Improvements: SC 37 was paved from Barnwell to Elko in 1930. SC 3 (current US 278) duplex was paved upon designation in 1940. In 1949, SC 37 was paved from Elko to SC 39. In 1950, SC 37 was paved from Barnwell down to the Allendale County Line. In 1956, SC 37 was paved from SC 28 (current SC 125) halfway to US 301. The remaining section of SC 37 was paved in 1959. SC 37 has no multilane segments. Comment: SC 37 is currently a minor state route with no particular importance. |
