SC 36: An original state highway that ran from SC 1 (now US 17) Ridgeland noth via Grays to SC 1 (now SC 68) Alameda.
In 1925 or 1926, SC 36 was paired with SC 1 to Hampton, then north as new primary routing to end at SC 33 (current US 301) Bamberg.
In 1939, SC 36 was extended east 3 miles out of Ridgeland.

In 1940, SC 36 was rerouted at Hampton to instead head due south replacing SC 63 to end at SC 5 (now US 321) south of Pineland. The route to Ridgeland became SC 128 (now US 278 and a little bit of SC 336).

Also in 1940, SC 36 was extended northeast from Bamberg as new primary routing to end at US 21 Rowesville.
In 1949, SC 36 north was truncated to US 301 Bamberg leaving behind bits of US 301 and US 78, plus S-5-20 and S-38-39.
In 1951, SC 36 was renumbered as US 601.
