Creation: SC 181 appeared in 1942 as a renumbering of part of SC 81, running from SC 81 (now S-4-1161 Professor Brown Ln) Starr west to Georgia. This is the 2nd SC 181.
Adjustments: In 2006, SC 181 east was truncated to SC 412, leaving behind S-4-224.
Improvements: SC 181 was fully paved upon creation; no multilane segments
Comment: SC 181's original east end was SC 81 and SC 82 - all three routes ended at the intersection.
SC 181 serves as a backdoor route from Anderson to Hartwell, GA.

SC 181 #1: Appeared in 1923 as new primary routing, running from SC 18 (now SC 24) Tokeena Crossroads north to SC 2 (now SC 59-130 jct) Seneca.
In 1939, SC 181 was extended south as new primary routing to end at SC 80 (now SC 243) Fair Play.
In 1942, SC 181 was renumbered as SC 59. Note that from S-37-75 southward, SC 181 used abandoned alignments plus Doctors Rd in Fair Play as SC 59 was built on new location.
