Creation: Appeared in 1942 as a renumbering of SC 181 from US 76/SC 13-28 (now SC 130) Seneca to today's S-37-75; newly constructed alignment to Fair Play; SC 182 from Fair Play to Georgia. This is the 2nd SC 59.
|
Adjustments: In 1962, SC 59 south was truncated to I-85 leaving behind S-37-11 and part of Lake Hartwell.
In 2000 (AASHTO), SC 59 north was extended northwest replacing US 76 Bus, US 123 Bus, and SC 28 Bus out to its current ending at the Seneca Bypass.
Improvements: Paved from Seneca to Fair Play upon designation. Fair Play to Georgia was paved by 1948. SC 59 was multilaned from Seneca to S-37-488 Wells hwy between 1970-74. The piece of SC 59 from Seneca out to the bypass was multilaned when designated SC 59 in 2000. Comment: SC 59 provides access to Seneca and Clemson (via S-37-488) from I-85 NB. | Previous SC 59's:

SC 59 #1: Appeared in 1929 as new primary routing, running from SC 55 near Clover east to SC 58-163 (now SC 49-274).
In 1942, SC 59 was renumbered as SC 557. The 1929 and 1930 Official maps show SC 55 and SC 59 doing some weird things I believe are in error.
