Creation: SC 187 appeared in 1940 as new primary routing, running from SC 184 Eureka to SC 81 (now SC 181) in southwestern Anderson County. This is the only SC 187.
Adjustments: In 1947, SC 187 was downgraded to S-1-28.
In 1949, SC 187 came back to the primary system, plus was extended north to US 76/SC 28 near Pendleton as an upgrade to S-1-105, S-1-43, and S-1-58.

In 1961 or 1962, SC 187 was rerouted in the SC 24 area by replacing a bit of S-1-93, then following new SC 24-187 construction west across an arm of Lake Hartwell. The new western split of SC 24-187 is 0.6 miles north of the old location. Some of the old SC 187 south of this survives as Marina Dr. Another surviving part is S-4-34 Whitehall Rd.
