Creation: SC 223 appeared in 1940 as newly constructed routing, running as it does today. This is the 2nd SC 223.
| Adjustments: In 1947, SC 223 was downgraded to S-12-26. In 1949, SC 223 was restored to the state highway system.
Improvements: SC 223 was fully paved upon resurrection in 1949; no multilane segments Comment: SC 223 does not provide much useful through travel, unless SC 9 between Richburg and Ft. Lawn was shut down. | Previous SC 223's:

SC 223 #1: Appeared in 1939 as new primary routing running from SC 22 (now SC 200) north a short distance to the Chester County Line.
