Creation: SC 901 appeared in 1925 or 1926, running from SC 9 near Richburg north to the York County line. This is the only SC 901.
Adjustments: In 1931, SC 901 was extended northeast as new primary routing to SC 5 (now S-46-6) Lesslie.
In 1933, SC 901 was rerouted to instead end at US 21 (now SC 72-121) southwest of Rock Hill. The old path to Lesslie became secondary, though later became SC 946. Now it is S-46-31.
In July 1936 (SCDOT), SC 901 was placed on a bypass of Lando, leaving behind SC 901 ALT (now S-12-18).
