Creation: SC 901 appeared in 1925 or 1926, running from SC 9 near Richburg north to the York County line.
This is the only SC 901.
| Adjustments: In 1931, SC 901 was extended northeast as new primary routing to SC 5 (now S-46-6) Lesslie. In 1933, SC 901 was rerouted to instead end at US 21 (now SC 72-121) southwest of Rock Hill. The old path to Lesslie became secondary, though later became SC 946. Now it is S-46-31. In July 1936 (SCDOT), SC 901 was placed on a bypass of Lando, leaving behind SC 901 ALT (now S-12-18).
In 1940, SC 901 was extended with SC 9 to Richburg, then south as new primary routing past SC 97, then replaced SC 223 to end at SC 22 (now SC 200). In 1947, SC 901 south was truncated to SC 97, leaving behind S-20-14 and S-12-21. In 1949, SC 901 was re-extended south to SC 22 (now SC 200).
In 1977, SC 901 was extended northwest along the new Heckle Bypass to SC 5. In 1992, SC 901 was extended north over more new road as the Heckle Bypass to SC 161-274.
Improvements: Origianl SC 901 was fully paved by 1938. The southern extensions were fully paved by 1950. SC 901 is multilane only on the Heckle Bypass and its SC 9 multiplex. Comment: Forms a southwest bypass of Rock Hill. Near its south end, SC 901 is blown off by I-77. |
