| ROUTE LOG |
SC 59, SC 182: 0 - 0 Anderson-Oconee Line: 2.1 - 2.1 I-85 (exit 11), SC 24: 6.9 - 9.0
|
Creation: SC 243 appeared in 1940 as new primary routing, running from SC 80 (now S-37-23) near Fair Play east to SC 24. This is the only SC 243.
| Adjustments: In 1960, SC 243 was placed on new alignment across Beaverdam Creek near SC 24, leaving behind Simmons Ford Rd, Gaines Rd (90% of this is no longer drivable), and S-4-236 Palmer Rd.
In 1962, SC 243 was extended west to Fair Play, replacing part of SC 80.
Between 1963-67, SC 243 was removed from Bolt Rd east of S-4-117. It appears (based on changes in the Oconee County map) SC 243 was removed from Grubbs Rd east of Fair Play between 1970-74 but this may have come when I-85 was built nearby in the early 1960s. Improvements: SC 243 was paved from SC 24 west to old SC 242 in 1940 All other parts of SC 243 were paved in 1952 SC 243 has no multilane sections. Comment: SC 243 is also identified on I-85 at Exit 4, but technically this is S-4-23 (old SC 80). SC 243 received a lot of improvements despite the fact that it parallels I-85 very closely. |
