In 1948, SC 253 was reduced to secondary status. The part around the north end of Paris Mtn to Travelers Rest became S-23-22. The other part may or may not have had that same secondary number.
In 1950, SC 253 was resurrected, but was given its N-S route to Tigerville instead of looping around to Travelers Rest.
About 1965 (shown as dotted line on '64 Official), SC 253 was extended southwest to SC 250 (current US 25).
Between 1968-70, SC 253 was extended southwest again to its current end at SC 124.
