Creation: SC 252 appeared in April 1938 (SCDOT) as new primary routing, running from US 76 Honea Path to US 76 west of Laurens. This is the only SC 252.
Adjustments: In 1947, SC 252 east was truncated to Ware Shoals, leaving behind US 25 and S-30-17.
In 1950, SC 252 east was re-extended to US 76 west of Laurens. Also, SC 252 was extended west with US 76 through Honea Path, then west over S-4-66 to end at US 76-178 near Broadway Lake.
In 1961, SC 252 was placed on new alignment through the SC 284 area, leaving behind what is now SC 20 CONN. Also in this timeframe it appears SC 252's west end was shifted west to its current interchange with US 76-178 (grade separation didn't occur until 1969) leaving behind S-4-48.
Between 1963-67, SC 252 was removed from the "Old SC 252" loop just west of Honea Path.

Improvements: SC 252 paved from Ware Shoals west a few miles upon inception.
SC 252 was paved the rest of the way to Honea Path in 1939.
SC 252 was fully paved on its 1950 extensions.
SC 252 has no multilane segments.
Comment: There is a posted SC 252 TRUCK for Ware Shoals that uses the southern half of US 25 Business and all of the US 25 Bypass. For some reason SC 252 through Ware Shoals is posted as SC 252 Business but there is no SC 252 Bypass.
SC 252 serves as a usable bypass of Belton by US 76-178 traffic.
SC 252's jct with SC 20-284 is grade separated.
