Creation: SC 302 appeared in 1973 as an upgrade to S-2-32 and S-2-78, running from SC 125 near Kathwood to US 78 east of Aiken. This had been part of SC 106 decades earlier. This is the 2nd SC 302.
| Adjustments: In 1976, SC 302 was extended west 0.1 miles with US 78, then north 0.1 miles as new construction, then replaced SC 215 through Wagener, Pelion, and Springdale to its current end at US 21-176-321. About 1997, SC 302 was relocated in the vicinity of US 78 to eliminate the duplex, leaving behid S-2-2322 DeLoach Way.
Improvements: SC 302 was fully paved upon creation Upon replacing SC 215, SC 302 became multilane briefly north of US 78 and from the Columbia Airport to US 21-176-321. In 1997, SC 302 was multilaned for a couple miles centered around SC 19 in southern Aiken. In 2003, SC 302 was multilaned from Columbia Airport south through South Congaree. In 2005, SC 302 was multilaned from SC 19 to US 78. Comment: SC 302 serves the Columbia Airport. SC 302's routing from Aiken to Springdale was once the original SC 121.
