SC 317 #1: Appeared in 1942 as new primary routing, running from US 21/SC 2 just north of the current US 21-176 split in Sandy Run west to the Lexington County Line. In 1947, SC 317 was downgraded to S-9-31 without ever having been extended to Gaston. SC 317 #2: Appeared as a dotted line on the 1974 Official, and open to traffic on the 1975 Official. SC 317 ran from US 501 north to US 17 west of Myrtle Beach. The 1980 Horry County map shows the proposed extension south back to US 17 at Murrells Inlet as SC 317, but when the road opened in 1981 SC 317 was renumbered as part of US 17.
