Creation: SC 418 appeared in 1949 as an upgrade to S-23-66, S-23-53, S-30-39 and S-42-50, running generally the way it does now, although it met US 25 3.3 miles south of Ware Place. This is the only SC 418.
Adjustments: In 1952, SC 418's south end was moved north 1.5 miles (but still well south of Ware Place).
In the late 1950s, SC 418 was removed from S-23-713 Old Fairview Rd in the vicinity of I-385.
In 1962, SC 418 was placed on mostly new construction from US 25/SC 8 Ware Place east to nearly Fountain Inn, leaving behind an extensive S-23-154 through Fork Shoals.

Between 1964-68, SC 418 was rerouted just east of the Enoree River onto new alignment leaving behind S-42-51 and S-42-356.
In 1988, SC 418 was rerouted to cross I-385 at Exit 23 instead of Exit 24. This was an upgrade to S-23-240 and created an overlay with SC 14 north to central Fountain Inn. The old route to central Fountain Inn via Fairview St became S-23-543 and a little SC 14.

Between 2005-07, SC 418 was removed from central Fountain Inn entirely by continuing straight across SC 14 onto an existing road. The old path became more S-23-211 Jones St; S-23-209 Westin St; S-23-1165 Gulliver St.

Also between 2005-2007, SC 418 was straightened out east of Ware Place to remove to quick sharp turns. This left behind two abandoned segments plus S-23-454.
Improvements: SC 418 paved upon designation; no multilane segments
Comment: I used to use SC 418 (with SC 8 and SC 88) as my main way to get from Charleston to Clemson.
SC 418 east of Fountain Inn is convoluted with several turns required to get to Woodruff.
