Creation: SC 522 appeared in July 1936 (SCDOT) as new primary routing, running from US 521 Pleasant Hill north to SC 9 (now SC 903).
Adjustments: In 1947, SC 527 was downgraded to S-29-14.
In 1949, SC 522 was revived to run from US 521 Pleasant Hill to the North Carolina line replacing S-29-14 and S-29-52.
In 1950, SC 522 was extended south with US 521, then southwest replacing S-29-53, S-28-29, S-29-58, S-28-28, plus a little S-28-13 which had been part of SC 265.
Between 1957-63, SC 522 was removed from S-29-302 near Dwight Crossroads and S-29-429 near Rich Hill Crossroads.
