Creation: Appeared in 1947, when US 29 was placed on the Anderson Bypass used by US 29 ALT. This is the 1st of 2 US 29 Bus routes.
Adjustments: About 1986, US 29 Business was removed from Main St to follow Murray St instead.
Improvements: Fully paved from inception; multilane on Murray Ave and some of Greenville St north out of downtown.
Comment: US 29 Business for Anderson uses Sayre St, Murray Ave, Greenville St, and Williamston Rd.
US 29 Business may have been posted as bannerless US 29 with BYPASS US 29 as its counterpart up through at least 1951.

US 29 Business followed Grove Rd, Augusta St, N. Main St, Stone Ave. and Wade Hampton Blvd
In 1959, US 29 Business was placed on new construction over what is now part of I-185 from Grove Rd southwest to US 29. Grove Rd south of here became an extended SC 20.
In 1960, US 29 Business was placed on more new construction (I-185 north of Exit 16) so that it went via Mills St directly to Church directly to Wade Hampton. Grove Rd became more SC 20; Augusta St and Main St remained US 25 (now also SC 20, unnumbered portion, S-23-3),; Stone Ave remained US 276.
In 1962, US 29 Business went back to being mainline US 29.
