Creation: Appeared in 1923 as an original state highway, running from TN 1 (Crump Blvd at Florida Ave) Memphis southwest to the Mississippi line.
Adjustments: In late 1926, US 61 was added to the entirety of TN 14.
About 1929, TN 14 was placed on completely new routing, using 3rd St the entire way to Mississippi. The old route used Florida St, Old Horn Lake Rd, Mitchell Rd, Horn Lake Rd, Western Park Dr, 3rd St, Westview Rd, Shelby Dr and Weaver Rd
In 1939 or 1940, TN 14 was extended through downtown Memphis, then northeast as new state highway to end at TN 54 Gift.

Between 1941-47, TN 14 was moved from 2nd St to 3rd St through downtown Memphis
About 1952, TN 14 was placed on newly constructed arrow straight routing from Prosperity to Mudville Rd near Rosemark. The old routing used Covington Pike (no longer crosses Loosahatchie River), Covington Pike Rd, Pleasant Ridge Rd, Sledge Rd, current TN 205 (except used Leggett View), Rosemark Rd, Mudville Rd
Between 1952-56, TN 14 was put on one-way routing through downtown Memphis, with NB using 3rd and SB using 2nd/Calhoun.

About 1962, TN 14 was placed on more new routing directly to its current TN 54 endpoint well east of Gift. The old route used Mudville Rd, Brunswick Rd, Redwood Rd, Deadfall Rd, Dunlap Orphanage Rd, Mt. Carmel Rd, Kelly Corner Rd, Terry Lane South Rd, abandoned road east connecting to Robertson Rd, Pickens Store Rd, Pickens Rd, abandoned road north to connect to Tabernacle Rd, Ralph Rd.

In 1996, TN 14 was removed from Old Austin Peay Hwy in the Wolf River/TN 15 area.
In 2008, TN 14 was rerouted to have a bigger concurrency with US 51, as Willis Ave used to connect diagonally directly to Jackson Ave.
