Creation: Appeared in 1933 or 1934 as new state highway, running from US 31E Madison east to Old Hickory (Old Hickory at Donelson). This is the 2nd TN 45.

Adjustments: Between 1957-59, TN 45 was put on a bypass around the west of Old Hickory plus extended south to US 70N (now US 70) Hermitage. The old route used Bridgeway Ave, Swinging Bridge Rd, abandoned routing through industrial plants, and Old Hickory Blvd. In 1969, TN 45 was removed from Old Hickory Blvd between US 31E and the Cumberland River bridge. In 1983, TN 45 was extended both directions: south to I-40 and west to US 431 Whites Creek.

TN 45 #1: An original state highway that ran from TN 15 (now US 64) east of Crump northwest through Milledgeville to Jacks Creek, then southwest as an overlay with TN 44 to end at TN 5 (now TN 364) Henderson.
In 1925 or 1926 (per official log), TN 45 north was truncated to TN 44 Jacks Creek. The route to Henderson remained part of TN 44. Today this is Main St and Mifflin Ave in Henderson; Jacks Creek St/Jacks Creek Cove (cutoff by modern TN 100)/Old Jacks Creek Rd. In 1927 or 1928, TN 45 was renumbered as part of TN 17. Today this is Coffee Landing Rd from US 64 to Morris Chapel; TN 69 to its jct with TN 22; abandoned route that becomes Main St in Milledgeville; TN 22A to Jacks Creek except it used Moss Loop near Cabo.
