Creation: An original route that started out running from TN 9 La Follette (now Tennessee Ave) to TN 32 (now Patterson Rd) Harrogate
Adjustments: In 1927 or 1928, TN 63 was extended south with TN 9 to Caryville, then west as new routing to end at TN 29 (now Glass House Rd) Huntsville
Around 1933, TN 63 was removed from Moody Ln west of Well Spring
By 1935, TN 63 was removed from Clawson Rd and Shetland Rd near Fincastle
By 1938, TN 63 was removed from W. Monticello Pike and E. Monticello Pike in Huntsville, moving TN 63's west end south to a new intersection with today's Glass House Rd.
Also by 1938, TN 63 was removed from Old Jacksboro Pike out of Arthur and placed on today's Arthur Rd/Providence Rd.
In 1941, Tennessee unsuccefully tried to get US 58 routed on TN 63 from Caryville to Harrogate
In 1947, TN 63 was removed from Old Jacksboro Hwy south of La Follette.
In 1956, Tennessee unsuccefully tried to get US 441 routed on TN 63 from Caryville to Harrogate.
About 1968, TN 63 was rerouted onto new roadway at Royal Blue, then onto I-75 south to Caryville. The old route is the lengthy Old Tennessee 63 through Turley.

Also in 1968, TN 63 was removed from Main St through Jacksboro
About 1971, TN 63 was put on its modern routing from Harrogate southwest to about Powell Valley, leaving behind Londonderry Rd/Arthur Rd/Providence Rd/Wade Ln (no longer connects to)/Town Creek Rd/Old State Hwy 63.
Also around 1971, TN 63 east was truncated to the new US 25E routing.
Also around 1971, TN 63 was removed from Sharps Ridge Ln in La Follette
Between 1974-81, TN 63 was removed from Morning Star Rd at Straight Fork and the Jakes Branch Rd/Old Hwy 63 loop at the Campbell-Scott line.
About 1977, TN 63 was given its modern routing from Powell Valley southwest to Fincastle, leaving behind Old Hwy 63/Old Middlesboro Hwy; also removed from Middlesboro Rd outside La Follette
In 1979, Tennessee floated extending US 119 on TN 63 from Harrogate to Caryville. Don't know why this failed - perhaps Kentucky was unwilling to part with US 25W which would've been decommissioned.
In 1983, TN 63 east was extended to Sneedville
