Creation: Appeared in 1927 or 1928 running from TN 55 (now B and M Ln) near Lynchburg to TN 10-16-64 (now the courthouse square) Shelbyville. Maps showed TN 82 running into Lynchburg directly but there has never been a road that did this.
Adjustments: If TN 82 ever used Toll Gate Rd south of Shelbyville it stopped doing so by 1935.
Between 1935-37, TN 82 was removed from S. Main St and S. Brittain St and instead routed over Sulphur Spring Rd to TN 16 (now TN 130) and followed that to the courthouse square.
By 1940, TN 82 north was truncated to TN 16 east of Shelbyville.
In 1940, TN 82 was removed from Old Flat Creek Rd in Flat Creek.
No official maps ever showed it moving (just the 1939 Bedford County map), so no map shows it being rerouted back into Shelbyville directly but it was by 1948 (topo), and the route used the new (current) Kingree Rd arc over to S. Brittain St
In 1948, TN 82 was extended north with US 241 (now US 231) to nearly Deason, then extended east through Bell Buckle to end at TN 64 near Beech Grove.

In 1953, TN 82 was extended south slightly to the new TN 55 alignment.
Between 1993-2002, TN 82 was moved from S. Main St to Jefferson St/Lane St to skirt around the courthouse area.

Posting: Posted as secondary throughout
The TN 64 and US 231 overlays are posted.
Secret US Route Overlay: None
Comment: It is odd that the road from US 231 through Bell Byckle to TN 64 was not given a different number instead of extending TN 82, as TN 64 is much shorter from Shelbyville.
